Introduction
As a little girl growing up in the Bronx, New York, I would find myself daydreaming about my future. I can recall one night looking up at the stars and saying,
“Star light, Star bright
First star I see tonight
I wish I may, I wish I might
have the wish I wish tonight”
As a five year old, I had heard this nineteenth century American Nursery Rhyme in the
famous Walt Disney production of Pinocchio and believed it to have some type of mystical
powers, so I chanted this rhyme while looking at the north star sitting on the window sill of
my parent’s apartment. After the rhyme, I recited my wish out loud,
“Please, let me find my prince charming and
live happily ever after
Please, let me fulfill my destiny
For I believe that I was put on this earth to make a
difference”
I am sure my words were simple and age appropriate, but the essence of the wish has
stayed with me my entire life. I have spent my life with the core belief that we all have a
destiny to fulfill. The belief, that things happen for a reason and no matter what we do to
change our fate or what obstacles and barriers are placed in our paths, our true destiny will
bring us back.
The book you are about to read is a fictional tale about two people who meet in high
school and whose love affair lasts for several decades. These two lovers had many
obstacles to overcome for love and passion. In their case, destiny did prevail!
